An Annual Review Beats a Quote Engine

September 2, 2026 — A website can price a hypothetical. It cannot read the policy in your drawer or the file a carrier would actually see.

Executive Summary

What a quote engine cannot see

A quote engine is built to return a number. The number is an illustration for a product, a class, and a set of answers that have not been underwritten yet.

Your annual review is built to inspect something that already exists: a contract. Face amount. Term remaining. Whether the only coverage is through work. Who is on the beneficiary line. Whether a conversion privilege is still open. Whether a new application would be a better path than a cheaper illustration.

Those are not fields on a quote form.

If you have term, a better rate or a better path may exist. May — not will. The engine will happily show you the rate. It will not show you the record a formal application can leave, or the conversion you might be walking past.

Knowledge is thin. Most people still want a person.

The 2026 Insurance Barometer Study, LIMRA and Life Happens, reports that just 32% of consumers believe they are knowledgeable about life insurance. More than half — 53% — prefer speaking directly with a financial professional by phone, video chat, or in person. 71% either have or are looking for a financial professional to help with their finances. 45% already work with one.

43% would research life insurance online but ultimately buy it in person. Only 25% would research and purchase entirely online.

That is the shape of this site: informational pages you can read, then a 15-minute conversation with a Licensed Insurance Representative — not a widget that pretends the underwriting already happened.

The conversation is the work

Bring what you have. A declarations page beats a screenshot of someone else’s premium.

In fifteen minutes we sort type, amount, workplace vs individual, and whether anything in health or work has changed the story a carrier would evaluate if you ever applied again. Informal questions first. A formal application only if you later choose it.

Gregory M. Sloan does not underwrite and does not issue approvals. Carriers do. The point of the review is to keep you from treating a quote as a decision.

Protect the file before you add to it.
